Safety Critical Medical (Fit to Work)

A Safety Critical Medical (Fit to Work) assessment is designed to confirm that individuals are medically fit to carry out safety-critical duties, particularly within the railway and construction industries.

What the Medical Covers

The assessment may include:

General health and medical history
Blood pressure and pulse
Eyesight and colour vision
Hearing assessment
Physical and functional checks
Assessment of any medication or existing medical conditions that may affect safety-critical duties
Drugs and alcohol screening, where required
Who Needs a Safety Critical Medical?

This assessment may be required for workers undertaking safety-critical roles, including individuals working on or around railway infrastructure. Employers, contractors or relevant infrastructure managers may require a valid medical before an individual can undertake certain duties.

What to Bring

Please bring:

Valid photographic ID
Details of any regular medication
Relevant medical information, if applicable
Any required employer or sponsor documentation
After the Assessment

Once completed, the medical outcome is processed in accordance with the relevant industry requirements. Where applicable, the result can be recorded against the worker’s Sentinel profile to support access to safety-critical railway work.
